Suggestions for Letters to Coastal Commission

  1. (Specific for permanent trailer owners) Explain how many family members, friends, and fellow fisherman have enjoyed the coastline by virtue of you owning a trailer. Have you had birthday parties or holiday dinners at your trailer(s) for large numbers of friends/family to enjoy? We need to stress the point that we, the owners of the trailer, are not the only ones that benefit from owning the trailer—that we PROMOTE public access and enjoyment of the coast because we lure folks to this beautiful coastline with our trailer accommodations. (If you have ever stayed in one of these trailers as family or friend, please include it in your letter)

  2. For those of you whose family has been coming to Lawson’s for many generations, please describe how spending time at Lawson’s over the years has enriched your family’s and friends’ lives. Did spending time at the beach teach your kids/grandkids to respect and value the environment? Have the campground and trailer users co-existed harmoniously with the environment over the years? Ask the Commissioners what proof of harm to the environment do they have (they have never shown any).

  3. Do you enjoy the unique beach community-feel that Lawson’s offers? Did you catch outrageously-sized fish, dig for clams or beach comb with your grandparents, parents or kids/grandkids/family/friends? Share a special story with California Coastal Commission.

  4. (Specific for permanent trailer owners) Are you elderly? By requiring you to remove your trailer, is the Coastal Commission robbing you of your retirement or your ability to enjoy the coast at a low cost in your golden years? Do you wonder why the Coastal Commission waited all these years to tell you that you have to remove your trailer after you planned all these years to have it to enjoy?

  5. Can you afford a hotel room for the weekend at Nick’s Cove or other hotels on the water, especially for a family? Can you afford a second vacation home on the beach? Explain that Marin is the closest coast to Fairfield, Vacaville, Sacramento etc., and that there are no low-cost, visitor-serving facilities on the coast like Lawson’s where large groups of people can camp and congregate together.

  6. Explain that you have a primary residence elsewhere and that your trailer is a recreational vehicle used only for recreational overnight accommodation. Explain that it’s too windy too enjoy tent camping along this section of coast, and that an RV is necessary.
